NuHer programme

HRT start & review

The NuHer HRT start and review programme is for women who want to find out whether hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is right for them and, if it is, to start it with proper medical supervision and a planned review. It is led by our gynaecologists and menopause doctors, in person at Nariman Point in Mumbai or by video across India.

HRT is a medical decision, not a default

HRT can help many women with menopause symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, disturbed sleep and vaginal dryness. It is not right for everyone. Some women are advised against it because of their health history, and others simply prefer not to take it. That is why the programme starts with an assessment rather than a prescription, and why non-hormonal options are always part of the conversation.

What the programme includes

  • A full consultation and history with a NuHer doctor, covering your symptoms, periods, medical and family history, current medicines and what you want from treatment.
  • Advice on tests, including whether you need any at all. Not every woman needs tests before starting HRT; your doctor will explain which, if any, make sense for you and why.
  • Starting HRT if it is suitable, with a clear explanation of the type, dose and form your doctor recommends and what to expect in the first weeks.
  • A three-month review to look at how your symptoms have changed, any side effects, and whether to continue, adjust or stop.
  • Non-hormonal options, discussed properly if HRT is not suitable for you or not your preference.

How it works

Before your appointment. Our HRT suitability check helps you think through the questions a doctor is likely to ask. It does not replace a consultation, but it means you arrive prepared. The symptom tracker is also useful for recording how you feel now, so there is something to compare against later.

First consultation. Your doctor takes a detailed history, talks through the possible benefits and risks of HRT for you personally, and explains the alternatives. If tests are needed, they will tell you which and why.

Starting treatment. If you and your doctor agree that HRT is suitable, they will prescribe it and explain how to use it. Like any prescription treatment, HRT needs a consultation and a valid prescription from a licensed doctor.

Three-month review. Around three months after starting, you see your doctor again to go over your symptoms and any side effects and decide on next steps. Adjusting the dose or type at this stage is common, and part of finding what works for you.

Understanding the hormones

HRT usually involves estrogen and, for women who still have a womb, a progestogen to protect the womb lining. Our guides to estrogen and progesterone explain what each hormone does, and our HRT page covers what is available in India. If you are curious about bioidentical options, see our page on BHRT and ask your doctor at your consultation.

Who the programme suits

The programme suits women in perimenopause or after menopause whose symptoms are affecting daily life and who want an informed conversation about HRT. It also suits women already taking HRT who would like it reviewed, and women who have been told HRT is not for them and want to understand their other options.

Questions women ask

Do I have to start HRT if I join?

No. The programme is about finding out whether HRT suits you. If you and your doctor decide it is not the right choice, you will talk through non-hormonal options instead.

Do I need blood tests first?

Not always. Your doctor will advise on which tests, if any, are useful based on your age, symptoms and health history, and explain why.

What if HRT is not suitable for me?

There are other ways to manage menopause symptoms, including non-hormonal medicines, local treatments, nutrition and lifestyle support. Your doctor will go through the options that fit your situation.

How much does the programme cost?

The programme depends on the care you need, so we share details when you get in touch. Message us on WhatsApp or book a consultation and our team will explain.
