You do not need to live in Mumbai to see a menopause specialist. NuHer's doctors see women by video consultation across India, so you can talk to an experienced gynaecologist or menopause doctor from your own home, in a time slot that suits you.

Many women put off getting help because there is no menopause clinic near them, or because they are juggling work, children and ageing parents. An online consultation removes the travel and the waiting room, without cutting corners on care.

Who online care is for

Video consultations work well if you:

  • Have changing periods, hot flushes, night sweats, poor sleep, brain fog or mood swings and want to know if this is perimenopause
  • Want an expert opinion on HRT or body-identical hormones, or a review of treatment you are already taking
  • Have vaginal dryness, discomfort during sex or urinary symptoms that you find hard to talk about face to face
  • Want support with weight, nutrition, sleep or mood during this stage
  • Have had your periods stop and want help with ongoing symptoms or long-term health

Women we see across India

We offer video consultations to women anywhere in the country, including Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Chennai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad, as well as smaller towns where specialist menopause care can be hard to find. If you are in Mumbai and would rather come in, you can also see us at our menopause clinic in South Mumbai.

How a video consultation works

  1. Start with the free test or book directly. Take our free menopause test to get a picture of your symptoms, or book a consultation. You can also WhatsApp us on +91 88799 88776.
  2. Get ready. Find a quiet, private space with a good internet connection. Keep a list of your medicines and supplements, any recent blood reports or scans, and notes on your periods to hand.
  3. Your video call. Your doctor listens to your symptoms and goes through your medical, period and family history, just as in clinic. You can ask anything, and you are welcome to have your husband or a family member join you.
  4. Your plan. Your doctor explains what is likely happening and talks through your options, hormonal and non-hormonal, with the benefits and risks for you. If treatment is appropriate, you receive a prescription, along with advice on nutrition, movement, sleep and emotional wellbeing.
  5. Follow-ups. Menopause care is not a one-off. You will have follow-up consultations to see how you are getting on and adjust your plan. Where useful, your doctor can bring in our dietitian, counsellors, dermatologist, neuropsychiatrist or Ayurvedic physician, also by video.

What can and can't be done online

A great deal of menopause care is about listening, explaining and planning, and this works well by video. Some things do need a physical visit.

Usually possible by video May need a local lab or in-person visit
Discussing symptoms, history and family history A physical or pelvic examination
Recognising perimenopause or menopause from your symptoms Blood tests, if your doctor feels they are useful
Talking through HRT and non-hormonal options Scans, mammograms or a cervical screening test
Prescriptions, where appropriate Checking unusual bleeding or a new lump
Reviewing reports you already have Any urgent or emergency problem
Nutrition, sleep and emotional support Procedures such as fitting a coil

If your doctor feels you need an examination or tests, they will explain why and what to ask for, so you can have them done at a lab or clinic near you and share the reports at your next consultation. If anything needs to be seen in person, your doctor will tell you honestly.

Online consultations are not for emergencies. If you have very heavy bleeding, chest pain, sudden breathlessness, or thoughts of harming yourself, please go to your nearest hospital or call emergency services.

Prescriptions online

In India, online consultations follow the Telemedicine Practice Guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in March 2020. Under these guidelines, a registered medical practitioner can prescribe medicines after a teleconsultation when they have enough information about your health to do so safely. Which medicines can be prescribed depends on the type of consultation, for example whether it is your first consultation or a follow-up, and whether it is by video, audio or text. Some medicines can never be prescribed online.

In practice, this means your doctor decides whether it is safe and appropriate to prescribe after your video consultation, and may ask for a test or an in-person examination first. If you are prescribed treatment, the guidelines require your doctor to send you a copy of the signed prescription, for example by email or message.

Your privacy

We know that symptoms such as vaginal dryness, low libido, bladder leaks or low mood can feel very personal. Your consultation is private and confidential, between you and your doctor. Under the telemedicine guidelines, doctors must protect patient privacy and confidentiality in the same way as in clinic. We ask you to join from a private space, and you are free to switch off your camera for a moment or pause if you need to.

Meet the doctors

Online consultations are with the same team who see women at our Nariman Point clinic, including gynaecologists and menopause specialists Dr Priyanka Mehta (MRCOG (UK), Member of the British Menopause Society), Dr Kajal Parikh and Dr Bhoomika Jain, supported by our physician, dermatologist, neuropsychiatrist, Ayurvedic physician, dietitian and counsellors. Questions women ask

Is an online menopause consultation as good as seeing a doctor in person?

For most menopause concerns, yes. Much of menopause care depends on a careful history and a good conversation. If you need an examination or tests, your doctor will tell you and help you arrange them locally.

Can I get HRT prescribed online?

If, after a full consultation, your doctor feels hormone therapy is right and safe for you, they can prescribe it in line with India's telemedicine rules. Sometimes they may want a test or examination first.

Do I need blood tests before my video consultation?

Not usually. For women 45 and over with typical symptoms, tests are often not needed. Read our guide to the perimenopause test to understand when testing helps.

What do I need for the call?

A phone, tablet or computer with a camera, a stable internet connection, and a private space. Keep your medicines and any reports nearby.

When are video consultations available?

Monday to Saturday, 10 am to 7 pm. You can call or WhatsApp us on +91 88799 88776 or email info@nuher.me.
